Shaping civil society engagement for the future

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Other

In July, Justine Greening, the International Development Secretary, launched the Civil Society Partnership Review. The DFID review team are now gathering views and evidence to inform recommendations for how we work with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the future.

Collaborating with CSOs is a vital part of DFID’s work. The review is a great opportunity for CSOs of all shapes and sizes to engage with DFID to help shape how we work together in the future. As part of the review, we will be considering how the environment in which international development takes place is shaping civil society. We will also explore how DFID can structure and conduct its civil society partnerships most effectively for the benefit of some of the poorest people in the world.

It’s important for CSOs to engage with the review process and share learning on how best to develop and shape civil society around the world, to enable sustainable development.

To support us in achieving this, we will be posting weekly blogs based on our five Lines of Enquiry. This will be in advance of group face-to-face discussions that will take place in September and October.

We want the blogs to begin a broad, open and lively conversation so please read, share and post your views. Each weekly blog will also include an online survey asking you for your opinions – please share this as widely as possible.

Over the coming weeks we’ll be focussing on the following themes.

Date                 Theme
10/08-16/08 Effective civil society
17/08-23/08 Effective knowledge and influence
24/08-30/08 Effective collaboration and partnerships
31/08-06/08 Effective approaches
07/09-13/09 Effective relationships and engagement

The review will conclude in November so please take this opportunity to have your say. Each survey will remain open for three weeks, and comments will be welcome on the blog throughout the engagement period.
